Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned job seekers about fraudulent employment offers in Zambia after six Ghanaians were arrested during a raid on a suspected cybercrime facility in Lusaka.

According to MyJoyOnline, the six were among 79 people arrested on 23 August 2026 in an operation involving Zambia’s police, Drug Enforcement Commission and immigration authorities.

In an advisory issued on 5 October, the ministry said reports received by the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka indicated that some individuals had travelled for apparently legitimate jobs, including online data-entry roles. Their employers allegedly seized their passports and forced them into online scams.

The ministry linked the development to trafficking networks exploiting people seeking work abroad.

It urged prospective workers to check employers, recruitment agencies and job offers carefully before travelling. Ghanaians already in Zambia were also advised to remain alert to suspicious online recruitment and contact the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka when they need consular support.
